Georgia U.S. Army Reserve Spc. KENNEDY SANDERS (24), Sgt. WILLIAM JEROME RIVERS (46) and Spc. BREONNA ALEXSONDRIA MOFFETT (23) have been identified as the three soldiers who were killed during a Sunday drone strike on their base in Jordan. They are the first American fatalities from enemy fire on the Syrian border since the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. The White House blames Iran and has vowed to "respond", but as official details emerge, the fact that all three soldiers were African-American, raises a ton of red flags.
On Monday, officials said U.S. forces may have let the enemy drone pass unchallenged into U.S. military air space in Jordan by mistake, which is how it was able to reach the base where it killed the three black troops and wounded dozens more, officials said Monday.
If American history tells us anything, it's this: If the white man wants his war, he will have it.
My youngest daughter is an active duty Marine, so I know the African-American community will continue to proudly serve and die with honor. We must not, however, allow ourselves or our children to be used as media pawns when waging what I believe to be a coming military conflict. Unfortunately, this great country has a mixed history when it comes to its treatment of black service men and women.
So, we must keep that in mind while supporting our brothers and sisters in uniform.
