The quote "Never let a good crisis go to waste," is often mistakenly attributed to the late British prime minister WINSTON CHURCHILL (90), but it was actually RAHM EMMANUEL (65), chief of staff to former US president BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA (63), who said it about the 2008 global financial crisis.
“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” Emmanuel told a Wall Street Journal forum. “And what I mean by that is, it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”
As callous as that may sound, it seems to be the general thinking of the global elite.
President GEORGE W. BUSH (78) used the September 11 attacks as an opportunity to wage war on the "axis of evil" and invaded Iraq, ultimately destabalizing the region. On the other hand, Obama did not take the opportunity to back the Syrian protestors during the "Arab Spring" -- which led to the rise of ISIS, the Syrian Civil War and ongoing instability in the country.
Never Waste a Good Crisis, also known as the Wolstenholme Report, was a 2009 report written by English civil engineer ANDREW WOLSTENHOLME (65) that outlined several problems prevalent in the British construction industry and measures that might be taken to resolve them. Wolstenholme called on the industry to use the Great Recession as an opportunity to change its performance.
That same year, Secretary of State HILLARY CLINTON (77) told young Europeans at the European Parliament that global economic turmoil provided a fresh opening. Clinton said: "Never waste a good crisis ... Don't waste it when it can have a very positive impact on climate change and energy security."
President JOE BIDEN (82) and his administration used the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to do things they could not do before, like shutting down the schools/churches, mandatory vaccinations and restricting the activity of the general public. ANTHONY FAUCI (84), head of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and a prominent member of the White House's Coronavirus Task Force, was accused of being responsible for the deaths of millions during the early years of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Now, the southern California wildfires -- that have killed at least 25 people, forced nearly 180,000 to evacuate, and destroyed or damaged more than 12,401 structures -- have provided the billionaire elite with an opportunity to buid their urban utopia.
Information Technology GM Ted Ross talks about the Los Angeles Smart City Strategy.
A smart city is an urban area that uses digital technology to collect data and to operate/provide services. Critics say small city initiatives are driven by corporations, poorly adapted to residents' needs, largely unsuccessful, and a move toward totalitarian surveillance.
