Several businesses from day cares to grocery stores and hair salons closed Monday across the U.S. in a loosely organized “day without immigrants” protest against the deportation of illegal immigrants by President DONALD TRUMP (78), but most employees and business owners went o work because said they need the income.
Protesters gathered in the morning on LA’s historic Olvera Street, which dates to Spanish and Mexican rule, before marching to City Hall. They called for immigration reform and carried banners with slogans like “Nobody is illegal.” According to police, however, the protests were illegal (due to a lack of proper permits from the city) and they quickly turned violent.
