FREDERICK DOUGLASS PATTERSON (1871 – 1932) was an African-American entrepreneur and the first African American-owned automobile manufacturer. His company, C.R. Patterson and Sons, created the Patterson-Greenfield automobile, which debuted in 1915 with a four-cylinder Continental engine, comparable to that of the Ford Model T.
