A statue honoring magazine publisher JOHN H. JOHNSON (87) has been erected in his hometown. Johnson, who was the first black American to be listed on the Forbes 400, began his career with the publication of NEGRO DIGEST in 1942, which was the launchpad for his later success with EBONY and JET magazines.
