Top leaderboard changes as Negro Leagues join Major League record

Major League Baseball has announced that statistics from seven different NEGRO LEAGUES have officially been added to its historical record. This will include stats from the years 1920 to 1948.

Negro Leagues seasons were shorter than MLB, so black players logged fewer official games and didn’t have the opportunity to pile up impressive totals in categories such as hits, home runs or strikeouts.

Researchers estimate that the 1920-48 Negro Leagues records are about 75% complete, and further updates could come in the future, if more verifiable information comes to light via box scores.

IN 1941, Kansas City Monarchs pitcher LEROY ROBERT "SATCHEL" PAIGE (75) led the Negro League with a 6.20 strikeout-to-walk ratio and Homestead Grays catcher JOSHUA GIBSON (35) was the leading hitter with a 1.238 on-base plus slugging percentage. Thirty years later, Paige became the first Negro League player inducted into Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame and Gibson became the second in 1972. | SHOP Retro Hoodies and Tees: https://shorturl.at/wXFL4
