According to a new study, researchers from the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney found that doing less than half the physical activity recommendations can lead to significant benefits. It does not have to be structured exercise.

They found about five minutes of vigorous intensity, incidental activity, like housework, work-related activity, active transport, carrying shopping bags or going up stairs every day, can lead to a reduced risk of a serious heart event or death by as much as 38%.

Approximately 60% of Black adults have cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, stroke, and heart failure. Black Americans are 54% more likely to die from cardiovascular disease than White Americans, and have the highest cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality rate among all racial groups.

Black men are 70% more likely to develop heart failure than White men, and Black women have a 50% higher risk.

Meeting the physical activity guidelines of about 30 minutes of moderate exercise or 15 minutes of vigorous exercise, five days a week, can reduce your risk of death from cardiovascular disease by about 30%.
