Approxmately 140 million Americans were under some form of federal heat warning on Monday as a multi-day-long heat wave inundated much of the United States, particularly the West Coast, where there have ben at least five deaths recorded. 

Dangerously high temperatures are expected to continue through Wednesday in the northeast United States. Electric bills are also expected to increase this summer as Americans fight to stay cool at home.
