According to a 2021 Pew Research Center survey, six-in-ten non-Hispanic Black adults1 (62%) say Black people should prioritize the struggle against racism over gender and LGBTQ+ inequalities.
Despite this fact, MSNBC has announced that JOHNATHAN CAPEHART (57) and EUGENE DANIELS (36) will be the first out Black gay men to co-host a cable news program. The gleeful pair will co-host the rainbow-feathered network’s newly expanded weekend program, The Weekend, with JACQUELINE ALEMANY (36), a straight white woman married to a Biden operative, named JAKE LEVINE.
Daniels, a former White House correspondent for Politico and strong defensive end for Colorado State University (B.A. 2012), is a flaming gay (fingernail polish, scarves, broaches, pumps, etc.) black man married to a nerdy white guy, named NATHAN THOMAS STEPHENS (36), who has a made-up job in Washington.
Capehart -- an outwardly conservative, dark suit-wearing gay black man, who made his mark on journalism by harnessing his ultra-liberal Carleton College alumni network and through his ability to construct sophisticated arguments –- is also married to a white man.

It would seem that white men are a precious commodity in the mainstream media. Why else would former CNN host DON LEMON (59), who is arguably the most prominent gay black journalist on the planet, complain to straight, white MEGYN KELLY (54), about her white husband looking at his white husband?
Perhaps, the reason for so many gay black men is the fear of straight, attractive black men, like former Boston Celtics head coach IME UDOKA (47)and former Good Morning America host T.J. HOLMES (47) screwing their white wives and daughters; or at least, monopolizing the bountiful T&A market in America's newsrooms.
The real reason probably has more to do with saving money and checking off boxes.
For example:
- A gay white man checks off (1) box
- A gay black man/white woman checks off (2) boxes
- A gay woman of color checks off (3) boxes
Just imagine what a gay black woman with a learning disability could achieve. Hell... she could end up becoming mayor of a major American city -- like Los Angeles.
Hiring one non-threatening, inexperienced person who checks off all the relevant boxes is cheaper and more politically expedient than hiring a staff of competent individuals with exorbitant salary demands. That's how most of the people who do the hiring for mainstream media think.
At least that seems to be how things work at NBC.

Last year, Comcast got rid of “money-losing assets” at NBCUniversal, like the USA Network, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel, as well as CNBC and MSNBC. MSNBC made outspoken white lesbian host, RACHEL MADDOW (51) take a 16% pay cut from her $30 million salary and fired outspoken black heterosexual host JOY REID (56), who was making $3 million.
Maddow, to her credit, criticized MSNBC for its selective, seemingly rac-based, terminations before going back to working one day a week for $25 million a year. Meanwhile, Reid has been replaced by a younger, cheaper version of herself, named SYMONE D. SANDERS (35) -- who is not a lesbian, but could pass for one.
That aside, it's clear the programming at NBC (and at most mainstream media, both locally and nationally) is not intended to represent the vast majority of black America. Nor should it.
However, when someone is held up to speak for a community (.ie. "black voices"), ideally, they should represent the values of said community, which has rarely been the case.
So, maybe, it's time to boycott NBC instead of Target?
